Downloadable PDF Watercolor Tutorial – Summer Beech Leaf Botanical Study
We continue with our study of beech leaves through the seasons with the summer leaf complete with a little Longhorn Beetle. You wouldn’t believe the amount of time it took us to get a small insect onto the leaf for the picture – we had an enormous number of failed attempts! The edges of the summer leaf are slightly wavy, you will need to work carefully with your paint’s tonal values to replicate this. The beetle is very tiny, so we are only painting a suggestion of it rather than trying to capture every detail. You can of course leave it out if you would prefer just a botanical study.
This is an instant PDF download, you could start painting the summer beech leaf in a matter of minutes. You don’t even need to wait for the post to arrive! You will receive a 20-page PDF document. Set out in the same way as the tutorials I write for magazines. However, you get lots more large photos of the different stages.
You can paint the leaf as a solo project or add it to a wildlife painting of your choice. Alternatively you can paint it along with the other seasonal elements as a complete Beech Tree study. To buy the other tutorials or the complete set of studies click on the links below:
Work at your own speed
Downloadable lessons enable you to work at your own speed. Firstly you can dip in and out of the content. Secondly you can spend time studying the fine details and practise the various techniques as often as you like.
I really like to focus on the watercolour techniques needed to create a realistic painting. Likewise, I love sharing this style of painting through my tutorials and hope I inspire others to create detailed wildlife portraits too.
