Learn to Paint Realistic Birds in Watercolor, with my Step by Step Lesson
Bramblings are winter visitors to the UK, often turning up in flocks of Chaffinch. I know the first time we saw one, it just looked ‘odd’ compared to the usual Chaffinches we are used to seeing. Through the winter the birds will feed on beech nuts, and other seeds and berries, but during the summer, in Scandinavia and Russia, they will take insects and invertebrates too.
I’ve classed this as in intermediate level project, as the bird has quite a lot of variation and subtle patterning within its plumage. The branch is also complicated with the sections of peeling bark, and of course there’s a background to add too. That said, the bird has enough colour within its white chest to stand out on the paper, so if you wanted to omit the background that’s an option too.
This is an instant PDF download, you could start painting this Brambling in a matter of minutes. You don’t even need to wait for the post to arrive! You will receive a 32-page PDF document. Set out in the same way as the tutorials I write for magazines. However, you get lots more large photos of the different stages.
Downloadable lessons enable you to work at your own speed, you can dip in and out of the content, you can spend time studying the fine details and practise the various techniques as often as you like.
Have fun with this lesson, take your time and let me know how you get on. Try printing off the last few pages which have the larger versions of the step-by-step photos for additional help.
