Watercolour wildlife blog by Paul Hopkinson, The Devon Artist

Hello There!

Welcome to my website, I’m Paul Hopkinson, also known as The Devon Artist.  No prizes for guessing where I live and what I do!  I started drawing when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, but I didn’t pick up my first brush until the age of twelve. This was when I first started to paint in oils and that is where it all began.

For many years I worked on watercolour, oil, acrylic and graphite commissions and have painted portraits, landscapes and also animals.  I now paint as a full time artist and have nearly 40 years of experience.  When I am asked what would be my preferred subject, I would say without a doubt wildlife.  I love to get the life within the eyes of my detailed and realistic paintings.  Do check out my shop for a selection of my latest pieces.

My focus these days is on the teaching of my style and techniques.  I really do feel that I have found my niche.  I absolutely love teaching others and find it really rewarding to see the progress people make as they work on the tutorial projects.
