Description

An elephant’s eyes are located on the side of the head, this gives better peripheral vision, compared to our eyes that are focused on the front of our face, and give us good binocular vision. Their eyes are about 3.8 cm in diameter, and come in different colours, mainly brown, light brown, honey and grey, although other colours have been known to occur occasionally. Interestingly, an elephant can only see short distances, up to about 20 m. However, their sense of smell, touch and hearing more than makes up for their lack of vision.
