Harebell PDF

This is a downloadable PDF lesson which will teach you how to paint an illustration of a Harebell wild flower using watercolours.

Harebell is a creeping perennial wildflower, with delicate blue/purple little bells that are much loved by bees and other insects. It is found throughout mainland UK, flowering between July and September within hedgerows, hillsides and grasslands. Although it mainly grows in dry, undisturbed ground.

This is a short tutorial, and I have kept the number of layers to a minimum, so it is suitable for all levels of ability. The hardest part, aside from mixing the right colours, is keeping the stems looking really narrow and fine. I would recommend that you paint on the inside of your outline drawing, it is easier to slightly widen the stem, as opposed to trying to thin it down.
