Download this watercolour guide, and learn to paint fish in fine details
The Malabar Danio is a tropical fish which originates from Sri Lanka and the west coast of India. It has become a popular aquarium fish, but needs to be kept in groups, as it is an active, schooling fish. On average, they grow to about 10 cm, although 15 cm has been recorded, that’s certainly going to need a pretty large tank, particularly as they like flowing water too.
I’ve classed this as an intermediate level project, as the details are quite varied and complex. I would advise sticking with the same background colour, as this is reflected within the fins. Indeed, it would be difficult to decide how another colour would actually show through the transparent elements of the fish anyway.
This is an instant PDF download, you could start painting this Malabar Danio in a matter of minutes. You don’t even need to wait for the post to arrive! You will receive a 31-page PDF document. Set out in the same way as the tutorials I write for magazines. However, you get lots more large photos of the different stages.
Downloadable lessons enable you to work at your own speed, you can dip in and out of the content, you can spend time studying the fine details and practise the various techniques as often as you like.
Have fun with this lesson, take your time and let me know how you get on. Try printing off the last few pages which have the larger versions of the step-by-step photos for additional help.
