Description
Original Pen and Wash Painting of a Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus)
This is a mixed media project, I have used ink pens for the drawing, watercolour paints for the wash layers, and a white gel pen for the highlights.
Red-winged Blackbirds are abundant across North America, and the males in particular are easy to spot with their flashy red and yellow shoulder feathers. Many people link their beautiful song with the first signs of spring. They have a varied diet, eating insects when they are abundant in the summer, but switching to seeds in the winter. In the breeding seasons Red-winged Blackbirds can usually be found around wet places.
