Detailed Watercolour Painting Tutorial – Downloadable Cocker Spaniel PDF
Jessie is a very young Working Cocker Spaniel who lives in our village. I know how you all love and hate working with white and black so her portrait seemed a perfect opportunity to really break the process down. Not only that, but we are also working with an animal with very varied fur lengths, from the long lengths on her ears to the short hairs on her nose. Each requires a different approach and once mastered this will help with any similar furry animals you may wish to paint.
Working mainly in black and white those tonal differences are key. I have therefore provided a couple of extra photos. One has been brightened to show a bit more of the detail and the other is in grey scale. The other thing to bear in mind is that Jessie is a very young dog, she has no grey hairs at all. When working with black fur there is a fine line between adding highlights and making an animal look too old. This tutorial should teach you how to avoid ageing an animal before its time.
This is an instant PDF download, you could start painting Jessie in a matter of minutes. You don’t even need to wait for the post to arrive! You will receive a 50-page PDF document. Set out in the same way as the tutorials I write for magazines. However, you get lots more large photos of the different stages.
Downloadable lessons enable you to work at your own speed, you can dip in and out of the content, you can spend time studying the fine details and practise the various techniques as often as you like.
Have fun with this lesson, take your time and let me know how you get on. Try printing off the last few pages which have the larger versions of the step-by-step photos for additional help.
