Watercolour Silhouette and Sunset Painting – Learn to Paint in Detail (Suitable for Beginners)

Silhouette paintings are a great way of using spare paint, and indeed getting to know your paints in the first place. They are relatively quick to complete, and as such can be ideal as gifts and give-aways. Creating the background is the really creative bit, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Sometimes the oddest of colour combinations, can actually look really fantastic when painted into a sky.

Whilst I have chosen to paint a silhouette of a deer, alongside some trees, and finished off with some birds coming in to roost, there is no limit to the subjects you could include. As with the background, just have fun. I’ve painted silhouettes of elephants and rabbits to tractors and people. Why not match the foreground image to the person you are gifting the piece to?
