Description
Original Painting of a Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon) by Wildlife Artist & Online Art Tutor Paul Hopkinson
The Swallowtail is the largest butterfly in the UK, but unfortunately it is also one of our rarest. That said, Jo and I did see Swallowtails, when we visited Norfolk a few years ago. In fact, we spotted them as soon as we arrived, they lulled us into a false sense of security, as we didn’t see them again all week! They live on wet fenland, with their caterpillars, that are equally stunning, feeding solely on Milk-parsley.
