Herb Robert is a very common wildflower in the British Isles. It can be seen primarily between May and September in a wide range of habitats from woodlands to exposed areas. Bees, hoverflies and the Barred Carpet moth feed and collect nectar from the plant. Whilst it has also been used as an antiseptic in traditional medicine, and is known to have been used as a treatment for many ailments. It has a distinctive smell when crushed which has led to it being known locally as Stinking Bob!

The tutorial breaks the project down into the main flower head followed by the base of the flower and the seed head. These later sections are very similar and can be approached in the same way. I have classed it as a project suitable for a beginner. More experienced artists may like to incorporate the flower into a wildlife painting of their choice or perhaps complete it as a botanical study and include the leaf too.
