Description
Original Painting of a King Penguin by Wildlife Artist & Online Art Tutor Paul Hopkinson
King Penguins are our second largest penguin, but still stand at an impressive 85-95cm tall. They lay just one egg, which is incubated on top of their feet. They take turns to incubate the egg or to feed at sea, with shifts lasting two to three weeks. Once the egg hatches, in around 54 days, the shifts reduce to around a week, but last for a further 40 days or thereabouts. At this point the chick will join a crèche to keep warm and safe, while they grow their feathers out, and become independent.
