Download a Detailed and Informative PDF Tutorial and Learn to Paint a Scarlet Robin in Fine Art, Illustration Style

The Scarlet Robin is native to Australia, where it can be found in southern areas. In these regions it is a common visitor to backyards, and with that amazing bright red chest it would be hard to miss it! Only the male has this vibrant colouration, the female is mainly brown and white, with a hint of orange on her front. The species form life-long bonds, each fulfilling their own role – the male as the main defender of the territory, and the female the nest builder. Both will raise the chicks once they are hatched.

I’ve simplified this project so that it is suitable for beginners, and we use just three main layers of detail. More experienced artists may wish to add additional layers between these three, but it isn’t essential in order to create a stunning painting. Remember to test your paints before you start, as it is important that you work with the right red mix for those stunning chest feathers.

This is an instant PDF download, you could start work on this Scarlet Robin in a matter of minutes. You don’t even need to wait for the post to arrive! You will receive a 41-page PDF document. Set out in the same way as the tutorials I write for magazines. However, you get lots more large photos of the different stages.

Downloadable lessons enable you to work at your own speed, you can dip in and out of the content, you can spend time studying the fine details and practise the various techniques as often as you like.

Have fun with this lesson, take your time and let me know how you get on. Try printing off the last few pages which have the larger versions of the step-by-step photos for additional help.
